Father’s Day Gift Guide: Our Top 5 Heritage Jewels for 2020

At Yafa Signed Jewels, we appreciate the importance of Fathers, as our company is operated by the father of three – Mr. Maurice Moradof – who has been our fierce leader and exceptional curator for 35+ years since the company’s founding.

That said, we have compiled our top favorite heritage jewels from his carefully selected collection for the special Fathers in your life, to give as a token of their legacy:

PATEK PHILIPPE Perpetual Calendar
Chronograph 5020 Watch

Arguably the most innovative in haute horology, this rare Patek Philippe chronograph timepiece features an 18k yellow gold tonneau-shaped case with black alligator strap, yellow gold tang buckle. Perhaps its most emblematic feature to the brand, however, is the Perpetual Calendar. Patek Philippe is known as the first maison to create this type of wristwatch in 1925; however there are earlier records dating back to 1898, when the movement was housed in a women’s pendant watch. We do do know historically the brand was also first to launch the chronograph perpetual calendar wristwatch in 1944 and the first with the self-winding feature launching in 1962 – which was a full 16 years before any other Swiss watchmaker had the ability to to achieve this feat. Attributes of this timepiece include a transparent movement, and front face which highlight month, date, day, hours, minutes, 24 hour, moon phase, and leap year indicators; finished with signature Breguet / Arabic numerals.

Model 5020; approx. 37mm x 45mm. Includes assay mark.
Case, dial and movement all Signed “Patek Philippe”; early 21st Century.

The chain link design has been seen as an adornment for ages, with earliest records dating back to Egyptian times when the design was worn to ward off evil spirits. The chain link bracelet has has experienced a renaissance within contemporary music culture from the 1970’s onwards. Today we see the design rise in the reggaeton scene where it is known as the “cadena de eslavon cubana” or more simply the Cuban Link Chain or even Miami Link.

Cartier Sapphire, Diamond Jabot Brooch

CARTIER Carved Royal Blue Sapphire
& Antique Diamond Jabot

This gorgeous ‘Tree in Pot’ jabot by Cartier dates from 1928, featuring intricate hand-carved sapphires peppered with white diamonds and fashioned in the Art Deco style. Originally known as a ‘stick pin’ and re-invented a generation later as a ‘tie pin’, this adornment has been a staple in any gentleman’s wardrobe since the 19th Century. The jabot’s provenance stemmed from a lush gathered decorative collar on a men’s shirt that surfaced four centuries prior, gaining its popularity particularly from European nobility. The most contemporary of fashion icons to grant the jabot a renaissance was Karl Lagerfeld, who famously declared “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat”. As legend has it, Lagerfeld apparently wore a jabot at all times, even whilst in the comfort of his own home. Celebrity red carpets recently exhibited a resurgence of the adornment in men’s fashion as the recent #bringbackthebrooch movement extended beyond the long draped gown, out from the collared neckpiece, and directly on to the men’s lapel. This Cartier jeweled jabot is the perfect adornment for the gentleman in your life; the Fathers who have become our own personal celebrities. With blue sapphire to symbolize wisdom, royalty, and good fortune, this exceptional “Tree in Pot” work of art is worthy of passing on within the family tree for generations to come.
Measures approx. 1.90″ in length, 0.60″ at widest point.
Includes Cartier Certificate of Authenticity; circa 1928.
