VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Bagatelle Turquoise Bombe Ring in 18k Yellow Gold.
A notable retro-style ring from Van Cleef & Arpels converging two designs emblematic of the Maison: the domed voluminous forms of ‘Pelouse’ (in some books this look is also referred to as ‘Couscous Passementerie’) decorated with floral motifs stemming from the ‘Hawaii’ collections.
The bombé ring features circular cabochon-cut turquoise within textured prongs of yellow gold. In addition, florets of faceted indigo sapphires with white diamond pistils are intermittently painted throughout. Therefore, the configuration offers surges of color within budding powder-blue droplets. That said, the look is similar to the decorative ‘petit point’ in textiles and arguably resembles tapestry in jeweled form.
The innovative aestheticism of the Pelouse combined with its pioneering techniques set influenced other fine jewelers at the time. In addition, this distinctive Van Cleef & Arpels design is said to have been created in collaboration with Péry et Fils, whose successful creative partnerships include the “Zip” necklace and the “Passe-Partout” collections. As a result, the Bagatelle ring is a significant addition to any high jewelry collection. We especially love the convergence of form with the decorative artful design – as if the Pointillism painting style was embodied in a jewel.
Diamond weight approx. 1.50 carats total. Sapphire weight approx. 1.00 carats total. Measures approx. 1″ by 0.75″ in width tapering to 0.15″ at back of shank, and approx. 0.50″ in height off the finger. Currently fits a US size 6.75; can be resized with an insert to make the ring smaller.
