VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Black Opal Fish Brooch in Platinum.
A stunning black opal is the dominating centerpiece of this charming fish brooch from Van Cleef & Arpels. The brooch itself is a wearable sculpture; depicting a fish adorned with a cornucopia of rare colored diamonds ranging from fancy intense yellow to gray-blue. The oval opal, however, is filled with multiple bright tones of the spectrum throughout. The black opal mineraloid specifically is the rarest and most valuable of all opals. A combination of carbon and iron oxide gives the gemstone a dark body tone that further intensifies its already spectacular rainbow-toned phenomena. This is an absolutely fascinating gem to get lost in, surrounded by equally engaging diamonds and design – all fashioned by the famous French Maison in the 1960s.
