Van Cleef & Arpels has transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary by taking the humble zipper and revamping it into one of their most iconic pieces, the Zip Necklace. The Zip necklace’s origins begin in the late 1930s when the Duchess of Windsor suggested that a zipper be used as inspiration for a jewelry piece. The necklace turns an everyday object into a sophisticated and opulent statement piece, consisting of several brilliant-cut diamonds and 18k gold throughout. The piece is designed with a series of small gold cups supported by golden hooks that gently mesh with one another when brought together by a sliding clasp. Surrounding the zip are several intricate diamond filled hearts. The necklace is accompanied by a pair of earrings of similar design, each set with seven round brilliant diamonds over a zipper motif, featuring suspending tassels of gold braids.
