VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Province Bombe Bracelet Pair in 18k Yellow Gold.
A notable and bejeweled pair of retro-style bracelets by Van Cleef & Arpels exhibiting a design emblematic of the Maison: the domed voluminous forms of ‘Pelouse’ (in some books this look is also referred to as ‘Couscous Passementerie’). Circular gemstones are brilliantly mounted in a continuous yellow gold flexible bombé form. Province angular geometric stripes are intermittently painted with red rubies and white diamonds throughout, offering breaks of color within dimensional gold. In addition, the convex nature and varied clarity of the gemstones capture light capriciously. This further enhances the shade and depth of color within this Van Cleef & Arpels Province Bombe Bracelet Pair.
The look is similar to decorative ‘petit point’, however, the design holds functional value as well. Further, each jeweled loop within this bracelet pair is an individually thread on a pliable and spring-like gilded base. Combined, the loops meticulously stack to create fluidity in movement. This innovative aestheticism of the Pelouse combined with its pioneering techniques set the stage for many other fine jewelers at the time. In addition, this distinctive Van Cleef & Arpels design is said to have been created in collaboration with Péry et Fils, whose successful creative partnerships include the “Zip” necklace and the “Passe-Partout” collections. We especially love the convergence of form with function along with its artful design – as if the Pointillism painting style was embodied in a suite of jewels.
Measures approx. 6.75″ in length. Includes French assay marks, Signed Van Cleef & Arpels; circa 1980s.
