VAN CLEEF & ARPELS Ruby Turquoise Ballerina Brooch in 18k Yellow Gold.
An important jewel in the Van Cleef & Arpels heritage collection, this jubilant ballerina dates from 1952, when the motif became a symbol of exuberance and hope after World War II. The sculptural brooch features a recognizable crown of sparkling red rubies, the emblematic rose-cut diamond visage, as well as a fanciful dress fashioned in turquoise cabachons. The choice of materials is typical of the daytime jewels in the classic Parisian style of this collection; originally released in 1941. The Ballerina Brooch is truly an iconic piece that needs no introduction among the informed and most discerning of collectors.
Measures approx. 2″ in width, 2 1/2″ in length. Signed “Van Cleef & Arpels”; circa 1952.
